sewed cloaks in the elfen workshop window of Portmanteau on Exchange St. in the Old Port the Christmas of ‘98, where the display won first prize. Now he has moved to the home of a collector. Sold for $150.00

Vashti

vashtiGypsy “Vashti” wears yellow and gold silks ornamented with gold trims and antique black laces. Her jacket is a black velvet print with a silk ruffle at the neck and lace-trimmed gold silk sleeves.
Around her waist is tied a purse of Indian silk brocade. Her petticoat is of a yellow print cotton with a deep ruffle and her pantaloons are of black cotton with lace ruffles. She wears a pair of gold slippers with cream ribbon florals. Her black wool hair is covered with an antique lace scarf trimmed with ostrich and pheasant feathers, ribbon florals, and black beading. Vashti stands 19 inches tall and is priced at $150.

rosalie “Rosalie” the Mermaid is dressed in pink paisley, trimmed with tulle, netting, beads, florals and leaves, and long graceful ribbons. Her hair is of a long-staple blonde wool. She stands 18 inches tall and is priced at $60.

this page is still building, but here are a few hints of what the workshop looks like.

Christine Rugullies uses so many things to bring her dolls to life……Leathers, feathers, and furs… Old sweaters, woolens, muslin, designer cottons and homespuns, batiks, vintage fabrics, old laces…Fleece, mohair, baby camel hair, silk and flax roving for wigs….Silks, (“especially the silks brought by my friend who travels to India”) ….Ribbons, brocades, netting and tulle, beading, tapestry…Gem stones….Bells, buttons and birds…Hand-spun yarns (“I’m spinning a Jacob fleece at the moment”)…Dried and silk florals, pods and cones, mosses and shells, lichens and vines…..Shells, seaweeds, and fishnets…..
